GOOBS is a mobile game developed by Jónþór Hill (“we”, “us”, “the developer”) in Iceland. This Privacy Policy describes what data GOOBS collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Username (optional). The first time you launch GOOBS, you may choose to enter a username (3–16 characters). This username appears on public leaderboards. You can skip this step and play without a username, in which case nothing about you appears on leaderboards.
We do not collect your real name, email address, phone number, address, or date of birth.
Anonymous identifier. When you first connect to our leaderboard service, Google’s Firebase Authentication assigns your device an anonymous identifier (a randomly generated UUID called a “local_id”). This identifier is not linked to your name, email, Google account, or Apple ID. It exists solely to associate your gameplay scores with your device for leaderboard purposes.
The anonymous identifier is reset if you uninstall the app or wipe your device.
Gameplay data sent to leaderboards. When your run ends, if you have set a username and your run meets a minimum threshold (score above 100 or distance above 50 meters), the following information is sent to our leaderboard service:
Locally stored game data (not transmitted). Your gameplay progress (currency, owned cosmetics, achievement unlocks, daily login streak, run statistics, audio/control settings) is stored only on your device. It is not transmitted to us or any third party.
GOOBS does not collect, transmit, or store:
We use the information described above only to:
GOOBS uses the following third-party services:
Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore (Google LLC). Used to host the leaderboard service. Data is processed on Google Cloud servers, primarily in the United States. Google’s handling of this data is governed by the Google Cloud Privacy Notice.
The following services are planned for integration before public launch. This policy will be updated when they are integrated:
GOOBS is a general-audience game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). The game does not require an account, email address, or any identifying information to play. The optional username field is moderated client-side to filter offensive language.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through GOOBS, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@jonthordev.com. We will respond within 30 days.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or California, additional rights may apply under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. Contact us using the email above to exercise these rights.
We use Google Firebase’s standard security infrastructure for data in transit and at rest. While no system is fully secure, we have not implemented any custom servers or storage that could be independently breached.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be communicated through the game (such as a one-time notice on next launch) where feasible.
