Who I Am

I'm Jónþór Hill Jakobsson — a solo developer based in Iceland.

I've been gaming for as long as I can remember. My brother is 10 years older than me, so by the time I came along he already had a Sega Mega Drive 16-bit and the consoles that came with that era. I grew up with a controller in my hand before I knew what to do with it. My first console of my own was the PlayStation 1 — a Christmas gift from my dad — and my second was a Game Boy Color, the see-through purple one. Eventually I settled into PC gaming as my home. Making games is something I've wanted to do since I was a kid — I just never actually did it until now.

Before this, art was the outlet. I spent night shifts drawing on Procreate on my iPad, and I tattoo as a hobby on the side. Art has always been the constant. Game dev just turned out to be the thing that pulls all of it together — the drawing, the systems, the gaming brain — into one project.

I've got 4 kids at home and a full-time night-shift job, so most of my dev time still happens in the quiet hours between shifts. GOOBS, a mobile runner I'm building for my daughter, is my first project. It's currently in closed beta on Android.

No publishers, no team yet. Just one dad with a laptop and some quiet nights.

What's Next

I love making games. Solving the puzzles, watching ideas turn into real things on a screen — it's the most fun creative work I've ever done.

The publishing side of mobile, though? Draining. Ad SDK wiring, endless forms, weeks of review queues, tester recruitment — a lot of process for not a lot of fun. So my next projects are probably headed to Steam, where the platform stays out of the way and I can just build. That said, I've learned a ton through GOOBS and I've got plenty of ideas that would work well on mobile, so — never say never. Maybe one more.
